Home Practice

I curated a collection of items that I believe could enhance your home practice. While you do not need any of these to start practicing Yoga or Meditation, they can make your home practice more enjoyable. I am not affiliated with Amazon and will not receive commission if you decide to buy with them. These are the props that I have in my house and use while teaching. I am a doTERRA Wellness Advocate and receive bonus and commissions from the company.

Yoga Mat

This yoga mat is the one that I use everyday. It offers extra padding then most, making it perfect if you are practicing in hard wood, or tile flooring. Since it is thick and heavy, I don’t think it is a good one to take to studios.

Yoga Strap

Have you ever wished your arms were longer in a yoga pose, like trying to reach for your feet in a seated forward fold pose? The strap os the solution. It helps you keep the alignment of the rest of the body, and the integrity of the spine while providing a good stretch. Also a great addition for restorative yoga.

Yoga Blankets

Also known as Mexican blankets, they are also a great addition to restorative yoga, for seated meditation, as a cushion for your knees when you have them on the floor, to warm up in Savasana,as a thinner bolster, etc… really, there are endless ways to add the blanket to your yoga practice.

Vata Aromatherapy

Wild Orange_0A3A1715.jpg

Are you a cheerful, energetic person, that loves to move, and sometimes can get bored with slower pace yoga, stop paying attention to the teacher’s cue after a while, and wants to do something else halfway to the yoga flow? Using aromatherapy to balance Vata tendencies can help you enjoy your practice even more! Feel grounded and centered with warm, and sweet essential oils. I suggest starting with Wild Orange.

Yoga Towel

If you get sweaty palms and feet, you could add a yoga towel for your mat. I use Manduka Yogitoes that have little rubber dots on the back to help the towels stick to the mat. Not everyone likes to have a towel because they can move around as you flow, but mine keep in place. I love the softer feel compared to the rubbery mat, and the fact that I can throw them in the washing machine and have a good clean after every work out!

Yoga Bolster

This is a must for restorative yoga. I actually have two of them for my restorative practice. You could also use in any yoga class, as a support in relaxing and stretching poses. also could be use as a meditation cushion. Feels like a splurge, but you probably fall in love and wondered why you didn’t get it any sooner.

Diffuser

Yogic wisdom describes the self as having a physical, mental, and spiritual bodies. Aromatherapy can be of great help when you want to deepen your practices beyond the physical aspect, moving into your mind and emotions. The olfactory system is directly connected to your limbic system, the center of memories and emotions in your brain. I love to diffuse essential oils on my do TERRA Lumo diffuser, that can change colors to match my mood, and has a 2, 5, and 10hrs option.

Pitta Aromatherapy

Peppermint 8.jpg

Pittas are intense and love a strong, sweaty work out like Power Yoga, but too much heat can increase the tendency to anger and frustrate easily, seeking perfection on every pose, causing burn out and going beyond your limits. Balance it out with a cooling essential oils like Peppermint.

Yoga Blocks

If you are investing in yoga blocks, go ahead and get a pack with 2! These are so versatile, you can use in restorative yoga, power yoga, meditation, etc. I often suggest uses in my class, so if you are taking my online live streaming, I highly recommend getting at least one!

Meditation Cushion

You can practice meditation sitting comfortably anywhere, my early morning meditations are done in my bed, still in my pajamas. But I do like using this meditation cushion to meditation session right after my yoga practice. The round shape allows my knees to come down to the floor, making it more comfortable. Could also be added to the restorative yoga practice.

Eye pillow

Great way to end your practice! Close your eyes and add the pillow lightly on top of your eye lids during Savasana. It helps deepen the relaxation response to have this little weight in your eyes. You can also add essential oils to take the relaxation even further, making it a nice aromatic experience.

Kapha Aromatherapy

Do you need extra encouragement to get out of bed, or your couch to exercises, have a tendency to sedentarism, and inertia, but after you finally start exercising you quite enjoy it, and have the stamina to endure even vigorous yoga flows? Then quick the Kapha dullness to the side adding Eucalyptus essential oils, with its warm and spice scent, it will invigorate that slow beginning every time!
